Dunkirk Historical Society house tour Sept. 13
The Dunkirk Historical Society is sponsoring its second annual house tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 13. Five very diverse houses plus the historic "Carnegie" Public Library will be showcased. Tickets are $15 and available at the Dunkirk Library, P&G Foods, Dunkirk Devel-opment Office, The Histor-ical Museum near Wash-ington Park and at the His-torical Museum booth on Dunkirk Heritage Days near the Clarion Hotel. All proceeds benefit the programs of the Dunkirk Historical Museum.
County Firemen's Fraternity Annual meeting Thursday
The Chautauqua County Firemen's Fraternity Inc. will hold its annual meeting at the Chautauqua County Firemen's Fraternity Camp-ground, Stockton, in the Velzy Building Thursday. The meeting will include elections of the executive board and a position on the board of directors. An attendee must be a member to cast a vote.
Legion Post 59 Car Cruise Friday
American Legion Post 59 will host its sixth annual Car Cruise at 156 E. Main St., Fredonia, Friday from 6 to 10 p.m. The event features the band Sammy Slicker and the Black Jacks, door prizes, 50/50, hot dogs and a silent auction. City Hall office closed two days
The city of Dunkirk Assessor's Office will be closed today and Tuesday.
Pine Valley to hold
The Pine Valley Central School Board of Education will hold a special meeting Wednesday at 6 p.m., in the board conference room (Room 5) at the elementary school. The board will adjourn to executive session to discuss the superintendent search process.
Fredonia ZBA to hold special meeting
There will be a special meeting of the Fredonia Zoning Board of Appeals for a public hearing continuation for Raya and Sandra Gopalan to erect a storage shed at 39 Birchwood Drive. The meeting is set for Tuesday starting at 6 p.m.
Silver Creek GOP?
caucus on Tuesday
Village of Silver Creek Republicans will caucus at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Han-over Town Hall, 68 Han-over St., to nominate candidates for the positions of village trustee.
Only registered Republi-cans can vote at the caucus.
Pine Valley looks to fill school board vacancy
Due to a resignation, Pine Valley Central School has a vacancy on its board of education. Information on school board membership is available from Debbie Hooker, district clerk, in the district office at the elementary school. Deadline for submission of letters of interest is Friday. Appointment will take place after interviewing all interested persons. The person appointed will serve until the annual vote on May 19, 2015.
Forestville village board meeting change
The Forestville Village Board will not hold its regularly scheduled Sept. 9 meeting due to primary elections in the village hall from noon to 9 p.m. The board will meet Sept. 23 to open bids for the three parcels of land declared surplus.
Portland peach social
There will be a peach social at the Portland Congregation Church Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. or sold out. The menu is beef on weck, hot dogs, salads, beans, peach shortcake, peaches and ice cream and drink. The church is handicap-accessible.
