Blue Grass and Country Picnic in Gowanda Saturday
Mike Wesley is sponsoring a Blue Grass and Country Picnic at the American Legion Post 409, 100 Legion Drive, Gowanda, on Saturday, beginning at 5 p.m. There will be food, beverages and music by the Creek Bend Band. Donation is $10 per person. Pre-sale tickets are available at the Legion or can be purchased at the door. This as an adult only event. No children are allowed. Deadline for recipes
in library cookbook Saturday
Help keep history alive through your favorite families recipes by sending the recipe (preferably in digital format), together with the name of and a few lines about the person whose recipe you wish to submit for possible inclusion in the Dunkirk Library-sponsored cookbook.
Proceeds from the sale of the cookbook will benefit the Dunkirk Free Library.
Entries may be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org marked "Recipe," mailed to Dunkirk Free Library, 536 Central Ave., Dunkirk 14048, or brought in person to the library. Submissions will be accepted through Saturday.
Annual cemetery board meeting Saturday
The Forestville Cemetery Association, which now governs both the Pioneer Cemetery and the Forestville Cemetery in Forestville, will hold its annual meeting on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Forestville Cemetery on Prospect Road, Forestville near the building.
Sheridan Town Clerk's office closed starting Wednesday
The Sheridan Town Clerk's office will be closed starting Wednesday and going through Sept. 3. The office will reopen for business as usual on Sept. 4.
Lakeshore Humane Society holds Pet Adoption Day/Open House on Saturday
The Lakeshore Humane Society will hold a Pet Adoption Day/Open House at its Adoption Center on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at 431 E. Chestnut St., Dunkirk.
The public is invited to see the facility, and meet some of the dogs and cats who need caring homes.

Annual meeting set
The Chautauqua County Firemens Fraternity Inc. will hold its annual meeting at the Chautauqua County Firemens Fraternity Campground, Stockton in the Velzy Building on Thursday. The meeting will include elections of the Executive Board and a position on the Board of Directors.
An attendee must be a member to cast a vote.
