The South Dayton United Methodist Church, 328 Pine St., South Dayton, is having a rummage sale Friday and Saturday. It runs Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A bag sale is scheduled Saturday at noon. There will be a bake sale both days.
End of summer concert

Hanover Democrats make nominations
for Silver Creek seats
The Hanover Democrats held their caucus Aug. 19. The purpose of the caucus, held at the Hanover Town Hall, was to open nominations for two trustee positions in Silver Creek.
Anthony Pearl of Andrus Street and Nancy Karmazyn of Burgess Street were nominated and accepted the endorsement of the Democrats.
Pearl is currently a trustee on the village board. He was appointed to the seat held by Mayor Nick Piccolo when Piccolo was elected mayor. Pearl is now seeking a two-year term.
Karmazyn has accepted the request of the Democrat-ic Party to run for a two-year trustee term. She has not previously held office.
Having endorsed candidates for both trustee seats that will be open, the Silver Creek caucus adjourned.
The Fredonia Board of Education will have an Audit Committee meeting on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the high school library.
Dunkirk High School plans meet and greet
Dunkirk High School will host a meet and greet event on Friday. Parents, relatives and community members are welcome to attend the event from 2 to 4 p.m. Besides high school staff members, community agencies also will be on hand. There also will be food and beverages for those who attend.

Chautauqua County Bridge No. 829 on Waits Corners Road, between County Route 18 and Bates Road, in Sherman is now open.
Dunkirk Town Board workshop and special meeting Thursday
The Dunkirk Town Board will hold a workshop and special meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, at the Town Hall, 4737 Willow Road to begin budget review and conduct any other lawful business to come before the town board.
Valley Historical Society meets Tuesday
The next regular meeting of the Valley Historical Society will be Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Museum at the corner of Main and Lester streets in Sinclairville.
Members will be finalizing plans for the 15th Annual History Fair Sept. 13, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Sinclairville.
Social Services plans informational meeting
The Chautauqua County Department of Social Services will host an informational meeting Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Jamestown Community College Training Center North Campus. Bennett Road, Dunkirk. for those interested in learning more about becoming a foster parent. Foster parents needed for children of all ages and those willing to accept sibling groups. Forestville Republican caucus changed
The Forestville village Republican Caucus has been rescheduled from Thursday to Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Building on Chestnut Street, Forestville.
Due to the Labor Day holiday, garbage pickup throughout the village of Gowanda will be held Tuesday.
First Friday Lunch Bunch begins Friday
The Audubon Center & Sanctuary's "First Friday Lunch Bunch" will take place Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Center, located at 1600 Riverside Road, Jamestown. The program will be "A Bird in the Hand," by Terry LeBaron and Jennifer Schlick, followed by BYO brown bag lunch and conversation. Audubon provides coffee and tea. The cost is $8, or $6 for friends of the Nature Center.
Silver Creek Retired Teachers' luncheon

Dunkirk Historical Society house tour
The Dunkirk Historical Society is sponsoring it second annual house tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 13. Five very diverse houses plus the historic "Carnegie" Public Library will be showcased. Tickets are $15 and available at the Dunkirk Library, P&G Foods, the Dunkirk Development Office, The Historical Museum near Washington Park and at the Historical Museum booth on Dunkirk Heritage Days near the Clarion Hotel. All proceeds benefit the programs of the Dunkirk Historical Museum.
