Starting today, you are going to want to give it a brake around area schools.
Some districts open today while the majority open Wednesday. Children will be out - as will additional traffic for those who drive their young student to school.
Last week, Dunkirk Police Chief David Ortolano reminded residents and motorists that in school zones, the speed limit is 15 mph from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is not a choice, it is enforced.
Also, motorists need to watch for buses, especially those with flashing lights. They are not to be passed - from either side.
"Violations of this law will be strictly dealt with and the punishment can range from heavy fines to jail time or a combination of both," Ortolano said. "We take violations of this law very seriously. Throughout the school year we will have patrols checking on school bus operations to ensure safety."
If motorists take it slow, safety will follow.
