Fredonia Complete Streets group workshop Thursday
As part of an Active Community Enhancements mini-grant, the Fredonia Complete Streets Task Force group will hold a workshop Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the village hall.
Various topics that will be discussed include: promoting safety for all forms of transportation; beautifying the village; and improving foot traffic, commerce and tourism.
Representatives from the state Department of Transportation, Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation and Chautauqua Home Rehabilitation and Improvement Corp. will be there to discuss the process of receiving grants to assist with projects associated with Complete Streets.

School plans meet and greet
Dunkirk High School will be hosting a meet and greet event on Friday afternoon. Parents, relatives and community members are welcome to attend the event from 2 to 4 p.m. Besides high school staff members, community agencies also will be on hand. There also will be food and beverages for those who attend.
Cassadaga Job Corps Academy to host informational session
The Cassadaga Job Corps Academy will host an informational session and tour of its campus, located at 8115 Glasgow Road, Cassadaga, on Thursday, Sept. 4 at 10 a.m.
The Cassadaga Job Corps provides training to begin a career in the healthcare, construction and the security industries, as well as High School Equivalency classes to those in need of a diploma. Training in certified nurse aide, carpentry, painting, plumbing and electrical are available as well as the advanced training for licensed practical nurse. Starting soon the Academy will also offer a security and protective services program.
The Academy will accept young adults, age 16-24, that are committed to a rigorous education and training program that are prepared to launch a career! Applicants can apply for on-center living or non-residential status, and all applicants will enroll on a full federal scholarship if accepted. Blood screening set for Sept. 13
The 30th annual Rotary Blood Screening program, with the assistance of Brooks Memorial Hospital, will be from 6:30 to 9:20 a.m. Sept. 13 in the Fredonia High School. The clinical blood test, including the colon-rectal take home test kit and the T4 Thyroxine or thyroid test will be $45. A PSA test is an additional $25.
There also are free blood pressure screenings and test results are sent to your personal physician within one week.

Silver Creek brush pickup delayed
Brush pickup in the village of Silver Creek has been delayed until Friday at the earliest due to paving. Officials ask residents to be patient at this time and thank them for their cooperation.
