Must be Judblindeye is a member of colander head's church. Can't wait for the first meeting. I hope the Observer is there with a camera. If he is wearing the colander Both he and Steger should be tossed out permanently!!!!

This is only the first step folks. This is Big Pasta getting its foot in the (kitchen) door. Next thing you know, they'll be drilling pasta wells all over the place, and then we'll be in trouble. First Barilla, then Mueller, it won't stop until the state is full of colanderheads. It may go so far as to eventually lead to an invasion of kluski, or, god forbid, multicolored pastas. Then, we have truly lost.
Guy is a dork, should not have worn the thing.
He should not have been sworn in while wearing that ridiculous head piece.

Actually, I couldn't care less about his "free thinker"/agnostic views. But if he really wanted to be free to act without regard to convention them why seek out the endorsement of a...... major political party!? Wouldn't it be far better to create his own, independent line on the ballot by going door to door, petition in hand, explaining his views to every registered voter that comes to the door in hopes that they'd personally sign on the line?

All B.S. aside this is what our political system has come to. Politicians think they are immune from the law the same laws they take an oath to uphold. It starts in Washington at the top and filters down to every city and village across the United States. Oh Canada is having its problems also. Seriously, unless the people get involved and stop voting party lines we are in for a very big and long problem. Why did the swearing in individual swear the clown in? Relative? Or are the same values shared between the two? You decide.

Local politics affect you every day and can be considered the most important for a community. Mr. Schaeffer's display just doesn't reflect his lack of judgement, but also represents the area's decline. He should put his resignation in and apologize to everyone of you. And shame on the people in this group who are trying to defend him and his decision, as you are helping him mock those that voted for him, the area and the faithful.

The oath to his office (and to the people) was not taken seriously, so I don't trust him at all.

We strive to be taken seriously by the powers that be in Albany, as we petition to save out power plant, our hospitals and our area economy. And then, this stooge slaps a colander on his head and serves up a Marx brothers performance in a public venue. Thus once again, reinforcing to the politicians in Albany that some of the people down here are clowns.

Who looks at anyone, in any situation, wearing a spaghetti strainer with any respect, validity or not say who is that nut???

The issue is that the office is of a secular-political nature. If he'd turned up in full K of C ceremonial grab it would be equally inappropriate. I'd give a pass in something such as a small lapel pin but not on attire which is purposely designed/positioned so as to startle & stir up controversy. I'd be less concerned if he turned up that way at a regular board meeting, but at a solemn induction ceremony?
I assume that he got on the ballot via petition as surely he wasn't vetted by a party committee?!

This guy is a JOKE Who voted for him??
Actually I think he was covering a point. A swearing in ceremony is NOT the proper venue to make a statement. There is ample time after the oath is taken. I can only imagine your reaction Judeye had the kook not had a D after his name!

I think he was making a point, one that by the paper making this a poll question and seeing all the comments here, was well made.
It appears to me he wanted to bring attention to the mix of religion with our politics. Have you bothered to go to the site of his 'religion'? It is a satirical approach to bring attention to the issue of religion. They do it with humor.
Anyone here think it is ok for some of these national 'ministers' to live in multi million dollar homes, drive luxurious cars, have vacation homes, etc...and not pay a dime in taxes..as it is all for 'the church'.
By the way, for myself, I am a deeply spiritual person who has a very strong and profound faith. I however respect all faiths...and lack of..to be as just as profound as my own. Many paths leading to the same destination. We are all ONE. Nameste..

The strainer was unusual and strange. His words were en more strange and in light of the strainer makes him seem unbalanced. No one in public office at the swearing in ceremony does this unless they are unbalanced.

I think a very important point has been missed, here, by all of you posters. Did the people who voted for tis candidate know of his background and his mental state? Did they take the time to look into his personality/agenda, b4 they cast their ballots? Apparently these were some of the same people that voted for our sitting President in the last election. Sad commentary abut the current state of the voting public. God help us we don't seem to be able to do it ourselves!!!
