Elementary school leadership/life skills club trains for 5K race
SILVER CREEK – Boys on the Right Track, a leadership and life skills club at Silver Creek Elementary School, just finished up its fall season in November 2017. Nine boys in third through fifth grades participated this season by training for a 5K race on Tuesday and Thursday mornings before school for the first quarter of the 2017-2018 academic year.
Under the guidance of teachers Trisha Sills and Janelle Smith, club members learn about friendship and social skills along the way. The boys ran the Veterans Day 5K on Saturday, Nov. 4 in Buffalo, and their dedication paid off: All achieved their personal best times for the race.
Fifth-grader Ryan Borrello finished fourth in the boys overall group with a time of 22:20 for a two-minute personal best. Fourth-grader Aiden Carver had an incredible race, finishing more than 12 minutes faster than he did in last season’s 5K.
The next season of Boys on the Right Track is planned for fall 2018 and any students interested in joining should see either Sills or Smith.
