Steelers fall in home opener, 8-4
OBSERVER Staff Report
Another top-tier team had its way with the Dunkirk-Fredonia Steelers over the weekend.
On Sunday in Steele Hall, the Canisius Crusaders scored early and often in an 8-4 victory over the Steelers in their home opener. Canisius, like Orchard Park last week, is in a division above Dunkirk-Fredonia.
After falling behind 3-0, the Steelers got on the board with a goal from Brandon Prentiss on an assist from Jared Glowniak. The power play also showed some success as Nolan Mages and Tyler Silanpaa each scored with the extra man. Stephen Aldrich added a fourth goal late in the game.
Assists were credited to Jared Heyden, Zach Rybak, Michael Persch and Carter D’Agostino.
Goaltenders Gabriel Persch and Nicolas Novelli split time in net, with both facing a combined 47 shots.
The Steelers, 0-0-1 in division and 0-2-1 overall, are home again on Sunday at 10:45 a.m. to face Wilson-Newfane.
