CANEADEA — The Dunkirk/Silver Creek girls 4×4 relay team is headed to the state meet, and Emilee Hanlon will try to add a state indoor high jump title to the outdoor championship she won last year.

The team competed at the Section 6 State Qualifier meet at Houghton College on Friday. The 4×4 team of Jericha Petrella, Kylie Procknal, Jaylah Cossin, and Hanlon ran a season-best 4:07.52 to win the event and head to states. Petrella, Cossin, and Hanlon were on the team last year. Hanlon won the high jump with a leap of 5’6″.

“Losing only one girl in the relay we knew we had a good shot at going back this year, but it wasn’t easy,” Dunkirk/Silver Creek coach Adam Woefle said. “It was a hard fought race that eventually saw us come out on top. I’m proud of the heart those girls put into it. Hanlon is also the returning Division 2 outdoor high jump champion, so we’re excited to see what she can do with no divisions in indoor.”

For the rest of the girls, Petrella came in fourth in the 600, and Cossin came in seventh in the 1000. Ellie Decker ran in the 3000 and finished in 13th place. Juliana Flick finished eighth in the 1500 and will also be accompanying the girls 4×4 to the state meet as an alternate. The girls 4×8 team of Sierra Jacques, Julia Kennedy, Decker, and Flick also took home a ninth place finish.

For the boys, Devin Eddy took fourth in the long jump with a personal best of 20’3″. He also ran in the 4×2 with Jonah Rosas, Nate Ganey and Nelson Rosario finishing ninth. Rosas also took 15th place in the 55 dash, Rosario 11th place in the 300, and Ganey 13th place in the 300.

The state meet will be held at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in New York City next Saturday.
