JAMESTOWN — The Jamestown Community College golf team has braved the cold weather early on in the season, with three days of competition outside in the cold from Friday-Sunday.

On day one at Highland Park CC, Anthony Miller shot an 82, while Dillan Labarbra shot an 83. Miller and Labarbra led the way again in the second day of competition, at Timber Banks. Miller shot an 83, while Labarbra shot an 85.

All four top scorers for JCC had their best day of the season on day three, held at Elm Tree CC, highlighted by a round of 76 from Nick Mole. Mole shaved off 26 strokes from his previous score from day two. Miller had a season high 76 as well, along with Labarbra’s season best 82. Fredonia grad Marina Kessler had her best day of the season, as well, with a score of 93. The score was a 12 shot improvement from her previous score.

“We just completed out first leg of the season in brutal, frigid temperatures just outside Syracuse. I was so proud that these kids separated the harsh conditions and stuck with the process of each shot,” said JCC coach Dan Vona. “This is what I try to teach, staying focused, don’t look back on the bad shots, but rather take them as an opportunity to hit good shots. Their scores really didn’t reflect their ability.”

JCC begins the second leg of its season this week, at the Mohawk Community College Tournament.

With warmer weather around the corner, we will focus on some swings drills and gear up for Nationals,” said Vona. Nationals will be held at Chautauqua CC, June 4-8.
