The Fredonia Lady Hillbillies softball team moved to 2-0 on the season with a 6-2 win over Maple Grove on the Billies’ diamond behind Fredonia High School Friday afternoon.

Grace Pucciarelli got her second win in the pitching circle this season for Fredonia, in the team’s first CCAA West 1 game of the schedule. She pitched five innings, giving up five hits, two walks and no earned runs, and striking out three batters. Maddy Marsh relieved her and gave up just one hit in the final two innings.

Grace Mroczka was the big batting star for the Lady Billies, knocking in four runs in a 2 for 3 performance. Kazlin Beers also had two hits and scored two runs, while Sydney Bigelow had a double.

Lynne Nordin had a solid complete game performance as the pitcher for Maple Grove (0-2, 0-1). She struck out nine and didn’t walk anyone. Taylor Samuelson had two hits for the Lady Red Dragons.

Fredonia Head Coach Jesse Beers said his team had some trouble with Nordin, whom he described as crafty but someone they are familiar with.

“It wasn’t our best effort today,” he said. “Defensively we had a couple of errors on plays we normally make. We’re going to have to play better to beat the better teams this year.”

Fredonia’s next game is another CCAA West 1 contest, at Falconer on Monday.
