PV game suspended after big F’ville rally

WEST VALLEY — Pine Valley and Franklinville played a crazy high school baseball game Wednesday. So crazy, in fact, it’s not over.

The umpires called the CCAA East 2 contest due to darkness sometime after 8 p.m. with the teams tied at 13 after eight innings. Mark Blecha, Franklinville’s head coach, said his team was down 13-7 going into the bottom of the eighth, but scored six runs in the inning to tie it up.

Blecha said he assumes the game will be finished when the teams meet for their scheduled game at Pine Valley next Thursday. The Wednesday contest was supposed to be a home game for Franklinville, but got moved to West Valley High School’s field because both teams’ own fields were unplayable.

NORTH COLLINS 7,

ELLICOTTVILLE 2

NORTH COLLINS — The North Collins high school baseball team moved to 8-0 on the season with a 7-2 win over fellow CCAA East 2 team Ellicottville in a rainy Wednesday afternoon game shortened to five innings.

Tanner Loretto led off the game with a home run for the Eagles, and also pitched the opening three innings to take the win on the mound. David Overhoff relieved him for the last two innings.

Tanner’s brother, Christian, was 1 for 2 with two runs scored. Coach Scott Gill said his team had a great game defensively, and highlighted Christian Loretto’s “tremendous” catch in center field that led to a baserunner getting doubled off.

The Eagles next play Friday at home against Franklinville.
