Brackets for high school softball playoffs released

The seeding meeting for the Section VI high school softball playoffs was held Monday night in Depew, and here are the opening opponents for the teams in the OBSERVER’s coverage area:

— Lake Shore (8-6) of Class A2, seeded No. 4 in its bracket, starts Thursday at home in a quarterfinal matchup against No. 5-seeded Amherst (7-8).

— In Class B1, Fredonia (11-3) is seeded No. 2 and will play a home game on Thursday against the winner of today’s prequarterfinal between No. 7 Albion and No. 10 CSAT. Dunkirk (12-5) has the No. 3 seed and also has a home game Thursday, against No. 6 City Honors (5-8).

— Class B2’s Gowanda (3-9) is seeded No. 8 and hosts No. 9 Southwestern (3-10) in a prequarterfinal today.

— Over in Class C, Cassadaga Valley’s undefeated record only got the Lady Cougars a No. 3 seed. They open at home against No. 14 Tapestry. Silver Creek (5-10) is seeded No. 10 and plays at No. 7 Randolph (6-11).

Chautauqua Lake (10-2) got a No. 2 seed and is slated to host fellow CCAA West 1 team Falconer (2-11), the No. 15 seed. Brocton-Westfield (6-7) is seeded No. 11 and will play at No. 6 Maple Grove (5-7).

All of the Class C games, which are considered prequarterfinals (only No. 1-seeded Portville gets a bye into the quarterfinals), are set for Thursday.

— Local Class D teams Forestville (No. 2 seed, 10-4) and North Collins (No. 3 seed, 12-4) open with home games against No. 7 Ellicottville and No. 6 Clymer, respectively, in the Class D quarterfinals on Monday.

No. 8 Pine Valley (2-11) hosts No. 9 Sherman (1-10) for a play-in game Thursday for the right to face top-seeded Franklinville in a Monday quarterfinal.

First pitch for all games is set for 4:45 p.m.
