CV teacher Tordoff to get proceeds from annual ‘Hits For A Cure’ game this year

GERRY — The 7th annual Little League “Hits For A Cure” baseball game in Gerry has special meaning for the Cassadaga Valley area as all proceeds will benefit Cassadaga Valley Central School English teacher and Gerry resident Debbie Tordoff, who is battling breast cancer.

This year’s game will be held on Saturday, June 9, at 5 p.m. in the Gerry Town Park as part of the 20th week-long Gerry Little League baseball tournament and will feature the Gerry Jammers and the Cassadaga Reds. The event was begun by Gerry native Brad Barmore to raise awareness for this disease and to financially help persons affected by it.

Barmore, who is presently a physical education teacher at Sherman Central School, says his passion for this cause was a result of both of his grandmothers being diagnosed with breast cancer, a disease that will affect one in every eight women in her lifetime with more than 250,000 new cases each year. He hopes this event will help increase public awareness and eventually result in a cure.

In addition to free admission to the game, the event will feature 50/50 drawings, T-shirts, food and drinks, and raffles. The field will decorated in pink and spectators are encouraged to wear pink to show their support. The theme for the day will be “Tordoff Tough,” honoring this teacher’s battle.

This year’s Gold sponsors include the Jock Shop, Midtown Motors, Ahlstrom Schaeffer Electric, Stuart Tool & Die, Triple E Mfg. & Design, Blackstone Advanced Technologies, and Shults Chevrolet. Any other group or individual interested in sponsoring, donating, or volunteering can contact Barmore by phone at 450-5190 or email at hitsforacure@hotmail.com.
