Fredonia High School’s tennis team will send six players to sectionals for the first time in at least 20 years.

Neil Gens and Dan Gifford made the event, set for Tuesday in Lancaster, as singles players. They will be joined by the doubles teams of Augusto Rodriguez and Trevor Napoli, and Max Kinkela and Jimmy Rush.

Gens is the singles champion of Chautauqua County, beating Gifford in the semifinals. Gifford finished in fourth place.

Kinkela/Rush and Rodriguez/Napoli will play in the semifinals of the county tennis championship tournament today at noon at Fredonia State.

Doubles

Max Kinkela and Jimmy Rush (Fredonia) defeated Cooley/Willis ( Dunkirk) 10-1 (First Round)

Kinkela/ Rush defeated Klein/Sorokes (Olean) 6-4, 6-3 (2nd Round)

Kinkela/ Rush defeated 2nd seeded Radka/ Jackson (Panama) 7-6, 6-1 (quarterfinals)

Augusto Rodriguez and Trevor Napoli (Fredonia) defeated Heimburg/Sweeney (Panama) 10-3 (first round)

Rodriguez/Napoli d. Marchincini/Sanfilippo (Frewsburg) 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 (second round)

Rodriguez/Napoli d. Shedd/Pike who were 3rd seeds in the quarterfinal 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
