Two Fredonia High School tennis players made the semifinals on the opening day of action at the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association tennis tournament, held at Fredonia State on Monday.

Neil Gens of Fredonia will meet Dan Gifford of Fredonia in a semifinal. Gens topped Maple Grove’s Porter DeMink, 6-2, 6-2, and then beat Carson Heimburg of Panama, 6-4, 6-0. Gifford was a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 winner over Nathan Radka of Panama and then moved on with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Tyler Marchincin of Frewsburg.

The other semifinal will have Frewsburg’s Jameson Sposato taking on Mark Brown of Olean after the former’s 6-4, 6-1 win over Josh Pike of Southwestern to start the day, which was followed up with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Panama’s Quinn Payne.

Brown’s first win of the day came with a 6-0, 6-2 final over Chase Boardman of Maple Grove, which was followed up by a 7-6 (5), 6-0 win over Eston Shedd.
