FORESTVILLE — For the second year in a row, Jamestown’s Anthony Gullo earned the top spot at the CCAA Division 1 league qualifier.

After 18 holes, the top eight qualified for a three-hole playoff,

Gullo finished with an 82 after 18 holes and a 99 after 21 holes at Tri-County Country Club for medalist honors, three strokes ahead of second-place finisher Max Vaughn of Southwestern. Vaughn finished with a 90 after 18 holes and 12 after 21 holes 102.

After 21 holes, third place went to Falconer’s David Allen with a 107, followed by Olean eighth-grader Kamdyn McClain, who charted a 112.

Southwestern’s Drake Bell and Jamestown eighth-grader Caden Salvaggio each finished with a 115.

Olean senior Keegan Belleisle claimed the alternate spot with a 116.

The golfers advance to the Sectionals, which are at River Oaks Country Club in Grand Island next Monday.

Fredonia’s top golfer was Owen Nicosia, who charted a 103 through 18 holes and a 121 after 21 holes.

“He had a ground to make up,” Fredonia coach Ross Conti said.

Fredonia now turns its attention to today’s team match against Southwestern. Both Jamestown and Southwestern have identical records, with both teams only losing once — to each other. Fredonia tied Southwestern earlier in the season and had a close match with Jamestown.

“Bottom line, if we beat Southwestern (today), Jamestown wins the league, and if Southwestern wins (today), Southwestern wins the league. We could make a difference who finishes first,” Conti said.

The team that wins the league will advance to a nine-hole team tournament to see which school represents CCAA at Sectionals.
