Hillbillies beat Hamburg, 14-0

HAMBURG — Reid Tarnowski and Jared Kowalski combined to throw a five hit shutout for the Fredonia High School baseball team Monday afternoon in a non league game, holding down Hamburg and winning 14-0.

The Hillbillies got things going early in the first inning by gathering RBI singles from Seth Schrader and Reid Tarnowski. A suicide squeeze by Trey Swartz would score Tarnowski, giving Fredonia the early 3-0 advantage.

“[Hamburg] played us tough,” said head coach Vince Gullo. “We played some good competition.”

Ryan Mroczka smashed an RBI triple in the third and then Derrick Walters knocked him in with an RBI double.

The fifth inning is when Fredonia was able to blow the game open. After a Nolan Mages two run triple, Anthony Gullo hit a sacrifice fly. Seth Schrader hit a two run double and then later scored on a Swartz RBI single. Alec Schrader and Seth Schrader had RBI doubles in the sixth.

Overall, Seth Schrader went 3 for 4 with two doubles while Derrick Walters added two hits of his own.

Tarnowski went five innings and gave up three hits while striking out four batters until Kowalski came in to finish the final two frames.

“It was a nice tune up to see Reid and Jared throw a solid game,” said Gullo. “We played great defense again, which is good to see.”

Fredonia (14-1) has another non league game today as they travel to face Frontier.
