Kerstetter wins youth bowling tourney

Alexandra Kerstetter of Forestville won the New York State Youth Scholarship Tournament held in Latham on April 28 in youth bowling. The tournament is sponsored by the New York State Bowling Proprietors Association, Inc. Alexandra finished first out of a field of 17 bowlers from all over New York State in the Grades 4 and Under Girls division.

Kerstetter rolled games of 72, 61, and 118 for a scratch total of 251. Her average was 54, which gave her a 3-game handicap of 447 and a grand total of 698. The first place prize is a $500 scholarship, which will be set aside until she enters college.

Qualifying for the tournament began on Jan. 6 during league play at Lucky Lanes as part of the Lucky Lanes Junior Bowlers. Alexandra qualified first during the league qualifying rounds.

On Feb. 24, she traveled to Allie Brandt Lanes in Lockport to compete for the regionals. There, she was the gold medalist, finishing first to earn the opportunity to compete for the state championship.

Alexandra, age 7, is a second grade student at Forestville Central Schools. This is her first year of league bowling without bumpers. She bowled the previous two seasons in the Bumper Buddies league at Lucky Lanes.
