LAKE SHORE 2, IROQUOIS 1

ANGOLA — The Lake Shore Eagles high school baseball team finished a league season undefeated for the first time in school history Wednesday, defeating Iroquois, 2-1, for a 12-0 record in ECIC Division 3.

“They took a 1-0 lead in the third (inning) and we scored both our runs in the bottom of the fourth,” Lake Shore coach Bob Kowal said. Zach Evans drove home Aaron Freeman with the game-winning hit.

Winning pitcher Bryce Toth hurled a complete game. He gave up six hits and struck out three batters. Center fielder Jackson Kwilos helped him out with a diving catch to end the game while an Iroquois runner was on first base.

“We did not get too many hits ourselves. We had seven hits,” Kowal said. Among those hits, Jon Wilson had two, including a double, with Alex Buckley also getting two hits.

Although the Section VI seeding meeting for the playoffs is not until tonight, Kowal said his team should get the No. 1 seed in Class A2. They will play their opening game at home against the winner of an Amherst-Cheektowaga game. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. Saturday.
