Lady Hillbillies softball team tops Lake Shore

LAKE SHORE–The Fredonia Lady Hillbillies broke out the bats in a 15-6 rout of the Lake Shore Eagles in a non-league game Saturday afternoon. The Lady Billies started early, and never looked back.

Fredonia (8-2, 6-2) was able to string together four first inning runs in a two-out rally against Lake Shore starter Evi Butlak. Led by Grace Mroczka, who contributed four hits including two doubles, the Lady Billies were able to contribute runs throughout the course of the game. Cassie Essek, Grace Pucciarelli, Maggie Mignoli and Kazlin Beers all chipped in with two hits apiece for the Hillbillies.

“We hit the ball well today,” said Fredonia head coach Jesse Beers. “We were able to attack pitches in the zone while letting bad pitches go, which was good to see.”

Fredonia got a combined pitching effort from Sydney Bigelow, who went three innings while giving up four hits and three earned runs, and Mroczka, who finished the final four innings, giving up just one earned run.

Lake Shore, despite the loss, got a solid effort from Hannah Duderwick, who went 2-4 while smacking a home run for the Eagles.

Despite Duderwick’s effort with the bat, the story of the game was the Hillbilly bats as a team.

“I think it was just nice to get out there in a non-league game–we were a little bit more relaxed,” said coach Beers. “With that being said we have a big week coming up with four league games, but the girls are playing well.”

Fredonia returns to the diamond Monday, as they face a tough Southwestern team in CCAA West 1 action.
