Dunkirk resident and Dunkirk City School District student Alex Ahlstrom recently returned from Fort Myers, Florida where he competed in the 2018 Perfect Game 13U BCS National Baseball Championships for the Tri-State Arsenal 13U National Team out of Mt. Laurel, N.J. The weeklong tournament featured 56 teams from across the country and was conducted on the spring training complexes of the Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox.

Ahlstrom, who batted fourth for Arsenal throughout the week, was named to the All-Tournament Team as a hitter for batting .385 with two triples, a double and eight RBIs over the six game tournament. In addition, Ahlstrom earned the win on the mound in the Arsenal win against Knights Baseball.

The tournament was broken into two phases. During the initial phase, Tri-State Arsenal went 2-1 with wins over the AR Saints (Georgia), and Knights Baseball (Tennessee) while falling to the eventual third place team Scorpions Baseball (Florida).

These results advanced Arsenal to the second phase of the tournament where they fell to the South River Seahawks (Maryland) placing them in an elimination game with Evoshield Canes Prime (Florida). Arsenal defeated the eventual overall tournament champion 5-3 to advance in the tournament. In the following game Arsenal was defeated 6-5 in walk off fashion to be eliminated from the tournament.

Tri-State Arsenal will complete a 10-tournament summer season by playing in the Diamond Nation 13U World Series and the Perfect Game Mid-Atlantic World Series later this month and early August, respectfully.

When not competing for Tri-State Arsenal, Ahlstrom was a member of Coach Frank Jagoda’s Dunkirk High School varsity team this spring and the David Mckeever Post 64 American Legion 19U Baseball Team out of Buffalo this summer.
