Ice Wolves: Bloody and proud

Submitted Photos

The Ice Wolves, a hockey team recruited at SUNY Fredonia, took part in the 11-Day Power Play Community Shift on Sunday morning from 2 to 6 a.m. The 11-day-long hockey game at HarborCenter in Buffalo will last until July 15 and is raising funds for various cancer causes. The team is pictured in the white jerseys in the top photo. The Ice Wolves played against Biela’s Tying the Net, in the blue jerseys. Captain Chris Biela organized that team as part of his bachelor party weekend, Ice Wolves captain Steven Skrzypek said. At right, the Ice Wolves’ Jeff Carlson (left) is pictured in his blood-stained jersey with event organizer Mike Lesakowski. According to Skrzypek, Carlson caught a puck in the face during the first hour of the team’s shift. “He was the first injury during the event this year, he’s not in the center ice group photo, but is pictured with Mike Lesakowski who sought him out after our shift,” Skrzypek stated. “Jeff needed four stitches in his face after catching the puck and made it back to cheer on the team for our last hour.”
