Wolverines tally five goals in win over Frewsburg
OBSERVER Staff Report
WESTFIELD — The Westfield/Brocton Wolverines boys soccer team came away with a meaningful victory on Saturday, 5-1 over Frewsburg at North Lake Field Complex in Westfield.
The game was deemed the “Kevin White Memorial” game, in honor of White, who lost his life in military service. Westfield/Brocton hosts a game in White’s honor every year.
Westfield/Brocton (3-2, 1-0) started off as well as could be, with a goal in the first minute of the game by Gabe Morello. The assist went to Nate Culbreth.
“That really pumped us up,” said Westfield/Brocton coach Jay Pikiewicz. “We had good offensive pressure early.”
In the 11th minute, Culbreth found the net for himself, assisted by Josh Heim. Frewsburg tallied a goal to cut the deficit in half, but the Wolverines added their third goal of the first half in the 37th minute by Cooper Harris to extend the lead to 3-1 going into halftime.
The Wolverines added a pair of goals in the second half — Jason Almeter from Darien Swanson in the 51st minute, then Heim from Culbreth in the 57th minute — to conclude the scoring. Mike Johnson had five saves in goal for the Wolverines.
Westfield/Brocton is in action next on Tuesday, when the Wolverines host Pine Valley at North Lake at 4:30 p.m.
