High school football playoff brackets revealed

The postseason brackets for Section VI high school football were released on Sunday, with six local teams set for postseason action.

In Class B, the Fredonia/Brocton Hillbillies are set to host Maryvale, from Class B1, on Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Orange Bowl. After a perfect regular season, the 7-0 Hillbillies face a two-loss Maryvale team that finished third in Class B1 behind Pioneer and Cheektowaga. Fredonia/Brocton was the only local program to earn a home playoff game.

Also in Class B, the Dunkirk Marauders will head to a familiar place on Friday night. Dunkirk heads to Cheektowaga for a playoff rematch against the same team that Dunkirk lost to in the playoffs a year ago, the 6-1 Cheektowaga Warriors. After a 6-0 start to the season, the Marauders had their hopes for the first undefeated season in Dunkirk in over 40 years cut short by the Fredonia Hillbillies for the second straight season. Now, Dunkirk will try to avoid a repeat of last season once again at Cheektowaga High School at 7 p.m. on Friday night.

In Class C, three local teams earned playoff bids — Cassadaga Valley/Falconer, Chautauqua Lake/Westfield and Gowanda/Pine Valley. All three teams will take the road for matchups this coming weekend. Cassadaga Valley/Falconer heads to Wilson to take on the second ranked team in Class C North on Friday night at 7 p.m. At the same time, Gowanda/Pine Valley heads to undefeated Southwestern to take on Division 1 Rutgers commit quarterback Cole Snyder and the Southwestern Trojans. Chautauqua Lake/Westfield heads to Cheektowaga High School on Saturday at 2 p.m. to face off with the top team in Class C North, Cleveland Hill.

Silver Creek/Forestville failed to earn a spot in the postseason after a 2-4 record in the regular season. The Black Knights will continue their season, however, with an appearance in the Chuck Funke Classic against Franklinville/Ellicottville on Friday night at 7 p.m.
