Dunkirk tops Lockport, Silver Creek defeats JFK

OBSERVER Staff Reports

Dunkirk coach Ken Ricker believed Nadara O’Dell felt slighted by not receiving recognition at the Westfield Winter Classic last weekend. On Wednesday, she played a game that would get anyone’s attention.

O’Dell had 26 points and 20 rebounds to lead the Dunkirk Lady Marauders to a 62-44 win over Lockport on Wednesday night at Dunkirk High School in a non-league girls basketball game.

Dunkirk (5-0) faced an early 7-0 deficit after three straight turnovers to begin the game all led to points for Lockport (3-2).

“They came out in zone, and I didn’t have us prepared for that,” said Ricker. “That was on me.”

The Lady Marauders quickly flipped the script, however, with nine straight points to take the lead. Dunkirk led 21-15 after the first quarter and extended its lead to seven points, 33-26, at halftime.

Dunkirk pulled away in the second half, with a 21 point advantage after the third quarter. The Lady Marauders led the entire second half.

O’Dell had 11 offensive rebounds to her credit in the game for Dunkirk.

The Lady Marauders also had 10 rebounds off the bench from Octavia Porter.

“She’s come up from JV and has played very well for us,” said Ricker. “Every day she gets better and better.”

Olivia Smith scored 18 points from Dunkirk, on thew strength of six 3-pointers.

Dunkirk is in action next on Monday, at Wilson, a team Ricker called a “perennial Class B powerhouse.”

Silver Creek 47, JFK 20

BUFFALO — The Silver Creek Black Knights girls basketball team came out on top on Wednesday, beating JFK by a final score of 47-20.

Abby Rice led the Black Knights with 20 points and ten rebounds while Kiera Brennan added 14 points and seven rebounds.

Silver Creek had succes early by pressing JFK which led to a faster pace and helped the Black Knights get some easy scores in transition.

Emma Rice finished with six assists for Silver Creek.

Silver Creek (3-1) will return to action on Friday when they play North Collins at 6 p.m.
