Frewsburg beats Lady Wolverines
FREWSBURG — Gabby Iuculano and Mikayla Gabalski-Jones each had 17 points as Frewsburg took advantage of 20 offensive rebounds on its way to a 56-24 win Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 West win over Westfield/Brocton on Monday evening in a girls basketball contest.
Iuculano had three fouls in the first half and with the Lady Bears taking a 24-10 lead into the second half, the senior guard picked up her fourth foul, but Gabalski-Jones picked up the slack by scoring eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers, in the third quarter to help the hosts pull away.
“It was a great team win for us,” Frewsburg coach Jeff Collver said. “Everybody contributed.”
Gabalski-Jones pulled down eight rebounds to go along with six steals while Amanda Dilts had nine rebounds for the Bears (2-0, 1-0).
Sophia DeMarco led the Lady Wolverines (2-3, 0-1) with 8 points, 10 rebounds, five blocked shots and four steals while Juli Smith had six rebounds.
“We played a box-and-one on DeMarco from the get-go,” Collver said. “We are still trying to get used to that aggressive defense without fouling. They did better tonight than our first game last Friday.”
