Devils remain in D3 hockey polls

Fredonia is back in both NCAA Division III hockey polls for the second time this season.

D3Hockey.com has the Blue Devils (11-3-2) at No. 14 and USCHO.com at No. 15 in the Top 15 polls released Monday.

The Blue Devils are in the USCHO.com rankings for the third straight week, and the fourth time this season. Their first appearance came Dec. 3, which coincided with their only other appearance in the D3Hockey.com Top 15.

Furthermore, Fredonia is No. 5 — after reaching No. 4 last week — in the Men’s Division III PairWise Rankings, which will be used this year for the first time in Division III to determine the four at-large teams — joining eight conference champs — to make the NCAA Tournament field.

The Blue Devils are back in action 5 p.m. Tuesday vs. Brockport at Steele Hall, a game previously scheduled for last Saturday but postponed because of poor travel conditions.

Blue Devils’ McCormick tabbed SUNYAC Diver of the Week

CORTLAND — The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected Fredonia sophomore Patrick McCormick as the Men’s Diver of the Week.

McCormick won the 3-meter springboard competition with an NCAA-qualifying score Saturday at Trinity (Texas) University. His six-dive score of 249.95 points followed his personal-best 471.15 points in the 1-meter competition Friday. His six-dive 1-meter score of 311.30 also earned him NCAA qualification. They are his first NCAA qualifying scores as a collegian.
