Bill Osula and Matt Brockelbank each won two individual events and the Fredonia Hillbillies boys swim team handled the Olean Huskies easily in the pool on their Senior Night at Fredonia High School on Tuesday, winning by a final score of 105-69.

Osula won the 50 yard freestyle (22.93) as well as the 100 backstroke (57.90) while Brockelbank won the 200 IM (2:21.92) and the 100 breaststroke (1:12.55) for the Hillbillies.

As swimmers look to wind their times down in time for the class and sectional meets coming up, one of the most impressive events for Fredonia on Tuesday was the 200 freestyle. Fredonia’s Nick Wittmeyer won the event (2:16.34) and then Aaron Pacos finished second while Chris Annear finished third, sweeping the event for Fredonia.

“That 200 free was a good one for us,” said Fredonia head coach Bob Ball. “All three of them swam their season-best times.”

Finn Frerichs won the 500 freestyle with his season-best time of 6:03.97 while Pacos finished in second just behind him in that event as well.

Both of Fredonia’s freestyle relay teams, including the 200 (Brockelbank, Wittmeyer, Diego Rey, Tyler Donahue) and 400 (Wittmeyer, Osula, Frerichs, Ronan Murphy), won with great times. Murphy also won the 100 butterfly (1:04.67)

Fredonia (8-3) will travel to Olean on Friday for the county meet, where certain guys can either qualify for the sectional meet, or improve their seeding.

“Friday will be the last chance for some of these guys to improve their times,” said Ball. “They can either lower their seedings or qualify for the match as a whole.”
