T’Birds beat Westfield

WESTFIELD — The Chautauqua Lake boys basketball team got a game-high 20 points from sophomore guard Luke Waters as the Thunderbirds squeaked past the Westfield Wolverines for the third time this season, 73-65, at Westfield Academy on Tuesday night.

Along with Waters, Zach Fischer scored 18 points and Nate Adams added nine rebounds to help in the win.

“Our defense just got beat off the dribble all night,” said Westfield head coach Bob North. “Waters and Fischer were able to get past us and get their own or create for other people. We weren’t able to take advantage of our height.”

For Westfield, Ryan Jafarjian scored 16 points while Andrew Baribeau added 15 and Evan Hauser had 13 points.

Westfield (10-5, 6-1) is back in action on Thursday against Clymer while Chautauqua Lake (8-5, 2-5) will host Olean, also on Thursday.
