Westfield drops game in Sherman

SHERMAN — Sherman posted 21 points in the final quarter to claim a 62-53 win over Westfield at home in CCAA Division 2 West action.

Gerald Carris scored a career-high 18 points for the Sherman (5-8, 4-2), while John Swabik had 5 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and three assists and Keith Gormley added 10 boards.

Mike Beatman scored 17 points, four assists and three steals in the win.

Evan Hauser led Westfield (9-4, 5-1) with 19 points and five rebounds; Dylan Scriven added 9 points and five rebounds while Andrew Baribeau added 13 points and six rebounds.

Jamestown 54, Fredonia 38

The Fredonia Hillbillies took a break from CCAA Div. 1 West league play to face Jamestown, but they struggled to score from the field and it resulted in a 54-38 loss on Tuesday.

“[Jamestown] has some size and we definitely had our hands full tonight,” said Fredonia head coach Nick Bertrando. “At times we hesitated or waited to long to get into position when trying to get going on offense.”

Fredonia was into the game at halftime after only trailing 22-20, but a Red Raider third quarter run pushed them ahead for good.

“We played solid defense, but that third quarter Jamestown went on a run and our inability to put the ball in the hole hurt us.”

Jamestown was led by Shaheem Freeney’s 16 points as well as Elijah Rojas’s 14 points on their way to victory.

For Fredonia, Keith Piper led the way with 11 points.

Fredonia (8-5, 5-1) will be back in action on Thursday as they travel to Frewsburg to get back into league action.

Panama 83, Brocton 48

BROCTON — Mikey Steward scored 17 points for the Brocton Bulldogs, but they couldn’t overcome the hot shooting from the Panama Panthers on Tuesday and lost, 83-48, in CCAA Div. 2 West action.

Cameron Barmore scored 28 points for Panama and Jack Sperry added in 12 points of his own to help get the Panthers to victory.

“We really didn’t have an answer for Barmore,” said Brocton head coach Colin Mulcahy.

Brocton was short their leading scorer Bubba Brown, but did get good performances from Jordan Krystofiak (10 points) and Riley Rivera (14 points).

“We’re looking to bounce back on Thursday,” said Mulcahy. “Mikey shot well and got hot from 3-point range, but we weren’t able to sustain it in the second half.”

Brocton (5-7, 1-4) will be back in action on Thursday against Westfield.

Forestville 59, Pine Valley 55 OT

SOUTH DAYTON — Forestville’s Javier West nailed a 3-pointer at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime and the Hornets were able to withstand the Pine Valley Panthers, 59-55, in overtime during CCAA Div. 2 East league action on Tuesday.

Gavin Christian led the Hornets with 23 points and six rebounds, while Luke Szumigala added 14 points and 17 rebounds to help lead Forestville to victory.

For Pine Valley, Christian Ortiz finished with 19 points and Brady Andrews pitched in eight of his own despite the loss.

Pine Valley (3-8, 2-2) will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Franklinville while Forestville (6-6, 2-2) will host Catt. Little Valley on Friday.

Franklinville 67, North Collins 54

NORTH COLLINS — Tyler Robinson scored 27 points, but the North Collins Eagles boys basketball team was unable to sustain their halftime lead and fell to Franklinville, 67-54, in CCAA Div. 2 East league action on Tuesday.

North Collins was outscored 49-26 in the second half and were unable to stop Franklinville freshman Josh Haskell as he poured in a game-high 32 points. Logan Frank added 29 points for the Panthers.

“Every league game we’ve been ahead in after three quarters,” said North Collins head coach Jan Warren. “We just have to learn how to finish.”

North Collins (1-8, 0-5) will be back in action on Jan. 24 against Forestville.

Randolph 69, Gowanda 29

RANDOLPH — Randolph improved to 9-3 overall and 3-1 in CCAA Division 1 East following a 69-29 rout of Gowanda (2-10, 0-4).

Tyler Hind had 18 points and five assists, Kaleb Steward added 14 points, five assists and five steals, and Gabe McCoy and Branson Morrison each had 9 points for the winners.

Silver Creek 72, Portville 46

PORTVILLE — Silver Creek (9-4, 3-1) was a 72-46 winner over Portville (3-9, 0-4), thanks to 26 points from Brady Woleben, 16 from Dominic Jamison and 15 from Tucker Gates.

Zayne Tarr led the hosts with 18 points and nine rebounds.
