Section VI Division II championships decided today

ANGOLA — Today the best grapplers from around the Southern Tier will look to punch their respective tickets to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Wrestling Championships at the Times Union Center in Albany on Feb. 23-24. The Division II wrestlers travel to Lake Shore High School today.

Fredonia will enter with 10 wrestlers into the Div. II competition while Falconer/Cassadaga Valley will enter the day at Lake Shore with a pair of No. 1 seeds.

Ceric Kristan of Fredonia is the man to beat at 170, while Cleon Lawton of Franklinville is at No. 2 and Bryce Baglia of Falconer/Cassadaga Valley is at No. 4.

Fredonia’s Dalton Gardner is in the No. 2 spot at 138, behind No. 1 Zach Braddell of Tonawanda. Braddell earned a last second victory over Gardner in the Class B finals last weekend at Cheektowaga. Dagon Bryant of Southwestern is in the No. 4 position after claiming his own class title.

Austin Bourgeois of Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama is in the top spot at 132 after his individual class title at week ago. Giovani Russo of Fredonia, who made the state tournament last year, is in the No. 3 spot after dropping the class title to No. 2 seeded Jake Vergien of Iroquois last week.

At 220, Jake Skinner of Fredonia is in the No. 2 spot, while Jacob Zachar of Randolph is at No. 3. Skinner and Zachar will look to take out Mike Rigerman of Pioneer.

Robbie Penhollow will look to continue his dominance at 195 pounds after pinning No. 2 seed Millard Young of Akron last week in Class C-D championship action.

Dontae Hoose of Southwestern will carry the No. 4 seed at 195.

Also earning a No. 1 spot for the Golden Falcons is Jimmy Kramer at 145. Kramer was able to move past No. 4 Derek Ecklund of Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama at last weekend’s championships.

At 120, Maple Grove’s Luke Tomlinson will enter the day as a No. 2 seed, hoping to upset No. 1 Josh Gill of Newfane.

Hunter Harris of Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama is the No. 4 man at 120.

Brayden Newman of Falconer/Cassadaga Valley is in the No. 2 spot at 99, while Andrew Lucinski of Newfane is in the top spot. Martin Ohlsson of Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama is at No. 3.

Nick Saeger of Falconer/Cassadaga Valley is in the No. 2 spot, trailing No. 1 Cory Day of Iroquois while Tatyn Bryant of Southwestern is in the No. 3 spot.

Jake Tomlinson of Maple Grove will carry the No. 2 seed into 182 tomorrow, while Hudson Johnson of Falconer/Cassadaga Valley is in the No. 3 spot.

Jason Frazer of Tonawanda is the man to beat at 182.

At 285, Ty Cassinelli of Newfane is in the No. 1 spot, while Ben Szymanowski of Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama is at No. 4.

After claiming an individual class championship last weekend, Garrett Swan of Southwestern will enter the day as the No. 4 seed at 113, behind No. 1 Alex Skowronski of East Aurora.

At 152, Sam Grey of Cattaraugus-Little Valley is in the No. 3 spot, behind No. 1 Johnny Putney of East Aurora and No. 2 Giovanni Schifano of Eden.
