Westfield looks to create an Athletic Wall of Fame

WESTFIELD — Westfield Academy and Central School board of education members heard about proposal for Wall of Fame.

Athletic director Jake Hitchcock, introduced the idea of an Athletic Wall of Fame. He told board members that WACS is looking at how other districts operate their walls of fame. “We’re looking to do what Forestville is currently doing,” he said.

Historically, an Athletic Wall of Fame honors alumni, coaches, and community members who have made significant contributions to the district’s athletic program. Hitchcock noted that up to five individuals could be inducted into the Wall of Fame in any given year.

Hitchcock told the board that in order to be nominated, an individual would have to be out of school for 10 years. He indicated that the committee will work out the exact criteria for enshrinement on the wall.

Following a discussion of the individuals who will serve on the Wall of Fame committee, the board decided to make this an agenda item for a future meeting.

Hitchcock also addressed the board on the subject of girls’ volleyball. “We’re looking to bring girls’ volleyball back here,” he told board members. Transportation, such as was available in the past, will no longer be offered, he said.

Hitchcock told board members that 26 girls have signed up for JV and varsity volleyball. “It is a good time to bring the program back here,” he added.
