Marauders win in extras, 3-2; Harford throws no-hitter in Silver Creek

High School baseball roundup

FALCONER — Dunkirk topped Falconer 3-2 in extra innings, in a Section VI CCAA Division 1 West baseball game at Falconer High School, on Monday. After starting 0-for-4, Michael Norton knocked in Jared Glowniak for the go-ahead run in the 11th inning to put Dunkirk ahead for good in a big 3-2 league win over Falconer.

Peyton Ahlstrom started the game and went 7 1/3 innings pitched, giving up two hits, one earned run and striking out seven. Jared Glowniak finished the game and got the win, only allowing one hit in extras and striking out six.

The Marauders offense was led by Alex Ahlstrom going 2-4, Glowniak going 3-5 and scoring the winning run, and Mike Norton getting the game winning RBI going 2-6.

“We had several chances in the first couple innings,” said Dunkirk head coach Frank Jagoda. “We had some clutch hitting in the top of the 11th. Jared pitched great, only gave up three hits. Needed this win to keep our sights set on the rest of the week. We made a couple of plays when we had to.”

Nate Abbey was the losing pitcher for Falconer.

Dunkirk hosts Silver Creek Wednesday.

Silver Creek 10, Cassadaga Valley 0

SILVER CREEK — Spencer Harford and the Black Knights (4-4, 5-5) no-hit Cassadaga Valley (0-4, 0-6) for a 10-0 win, in a Section VI CCAA Division 1 West baseball game at Silver Creek High School, on Monday.

Silver Creek’s Harford was lights out on the hill as he pitched a six inning no hitter against the Cougars. Harford added 10 strikeouts and walked just one batter, while allowing no ball to leave the infield.

“Spencer threw an outstanding ballgame, keeping Cassadaga Valley offbalanced,” said Silver Creek head coach Mike Janisch. “Used the fastball to set up some offspeed pitches, only had one runner who walked and was erased on a double play. Of the 18 he faced, he struck out 10, walked one and no balls left the infield.”

The Black Knights scored one run early, but managed to get a seven run sixth inning that led to a run-rule win. The offense was powered by Luke Zybtek going 2-3 with a single, double and three RBI; Chris Van Cherri had a double and an RBI; Travis Drozdziel went 1-1 with a walk, two RBI and two stolen bases; and Harford added a triple.

Adam Goot was on the mound for Cassadaga Valley, striking out 11 and giving up 11 hits in the loss for the Cougars.

Silver Creek travels to Dunkirk on Wednesday.

Cassadaga Valley hosts Southwestern today.
