Brocton plays for title today

OBSERVER Staff Report

JAMESTOWN — The Brocton Bulldogs attempt to claim a second straight Section VI, Class D baseball championship title today, as the Bulldogs take on CCAA Division 2 West foe Clymer/Sherman today at Russell E. Diethrick Jr. Park, in Jamestown. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.

Brocton (7-7, 6-2) defeated Clymer/Sherman twice in the regular season, while finishing second in the league standings to Maple Grove. The Bulldogs outscored Clymer/Sherman 8-1 in the two games combined this season.

The top seed in the Section VI, Class D playoffs, Brocton defeated 5-seed North Collins, 7-0, in the Sectional semifinals on Thursday, in Brocton. Clymer/Sherman, the 3-seed, upset 2-seed Franklinville on Thursday night to earn a spot in the Sectional final.

Last season, when Clymer and Sherman were not a merged team, Brocton run-ruled Sherman in the first playoff game for the Bulldogs — the first of many, as Brocton made its first trip to the State Final Four in the baseball program’s history. Now, Brocton sits just two wins shy of returning to Binghamton for the State Final Four again.
