OBSERVER Staff Report

The CCAA Division 2 West softball All-Stars were announced earlier this week, featuring many local standouts. In a division that featured two teams that won Sectional titles — Maple Grove and Panama — it’s no surprise that plenty of talent was represented on the league All-Star lists.

The newcomers to the league, Maple Grove, took home the highest honors of the league. After going 11-1 in league play this year, Maple Grove took home the division title and earned its coach, Rebecca Allen, the Coach of the Year in CCAA Division 2 West. As if a division title and the Coach of the Year honors weren’t enough for Maple Grove, the Red Dragons’ first baseman Elise Swanson claimed the CCAA Division 2 West Player of the Year award. Swanson earned First Team All-Star honors, along with three of her teammates, Lynne Nordin, Clare Crossley and Meghann Nolan. Samantha Davis, Sarah Berg and Erin Mansfield earned Second Team for Maple Grove, while Kelsey Tarbrake received Honorable Mention.

Panama — the Section VI, Class D softball champions — had three First Team All-Star selections in the league. Shortstop Maci Johnson and third baseman Abi Lisciandro made the First Team, along with the league’s Pitcher of the Year award recipient Ashlyn Harvey. Second Team All-Stars for Panama are Jessica Mistretta, Marra Hovey and Ava Morton, while Natalie Angeletti received Honorable Mention for the Lady Panthers.

Not to be outdone, Forestville featured three First Team All-Stars in 2019, after losing a bulk of its roster from the previous season. Lillee Gould, Clare Kingsfield and Phoebe Kingsfield all earned First Team All-Star honors for Forestville in 2019, the junior season for all three Lady Hornets. In addition, junior pitcher Kaitlyn Alguire and senior Rachael Goodrich earned Second Team All-Star honors, while sophomore Alexis Alguire earned Honorable Mention.

With only Goodrich graduating in 2019, the Lady Hornets look to improve upon this year’s result of a Class D semifinal appearance and a third place finish in the league.

The fourth place team in the league this season, the Brocton Lady Bulldogs, featured a pair of First Team All-Star selections. Brocton’s junior battery-mates — pitcher Megan Gloss and catcher Jenelle Grigelevich — each made the CCAA Division 2 West First Team All-Star list. Also honored for Brocton on the Second Team were sophomores Makenna Honey and Juli Smith. Cheyanna Rivera, a junior, received Honorable Mention. Like Forestville, Brocton also loses just one senior from 2019 — Annalise Wdowiasz, who received Honorable Mention this season.

Westfield, who was previously merged with Brocton prior to this season, loses only one player from 2019 moving forward, as well — Sarah Tilley, who received Honorable Mention in the league this year. The Lady Wolverines saw eighth grader Haleigh Dellow receive First Team All-Star honors in her first varsity softball season. Also for Westfield, junior Abbi Warner — who previously played for the Brocton/Westfield merger — earned Second Team All-Star recognition. Westfield seventh grade pitcher Tanleigh Bestine earned Honorable Mention, in her first varsity season, as well.

Rounding out the All-Star selections, Amaya Lewczyk earned First Team recognition from Sherman, while her teammate Rowan Fisher was Second Team and Kayla Yokom earned Honorable Mention. Rebecca Linton earned Second Team honors for Clymer, while Karlen Honey earned Honorable Mention. Forestville earned the team sportsmanship award.
