FORESTVILLE — Over 100 people gathered at Tri-County Country Club recently to enjoy a great day of golf, good company and to raise money for the United Way of Northern Chautauqua County.

The sixth annual United Way Charity Golf Tournament hosted about 100 golfers playing in the four-man scramble on the scenic course. Some of the golfers were competitive and looking to score the top prize, while others were just out to enjoy the day and to have a good time. Regardless of their skill level, all golfers appeared to enjoy the outing, special games and raffles offered throughout the day.

Taking home top prize this year was the foursome of Brad Ballentine, Stephen Crowley, Matt Golden and Adam Cerrie. The team received pro-shop credit for their efforts as well as a complimentary game for a foursome to return to the course for another round in the future. Also receiving pro-shop gifts were the second-place team of Mike McMasters, Austin White, Jeff Stoltenberg and Kyle Callea, as well as the team that shot the highest score on the afternoon. Other golfers were able to collect prizes, donated by Certo Brothers, during the outing by hitting the longest drive and for coming closest to the pin on select holes. Basil Chevy, Buick, Cadillac sponsored the hole in one contest and offered a brand-new Cadillac as a prize for a lucky golfer, if they could manage to hit the once in a lifetime shot. Sadly, none of the golfers drove home in a new car.

The event raised over $15,000 thanks to generous sponsors and donations from local businesses. Special thanks go out to major sponsors Wal-Mart, National Grid, Community Bank, A.W. Farrell & Son, TPS Fuel, Phillips Lytle and Nestle Purina. In addition to sponsoring the tournament, several businesses bought Tee signs, donated basket raffle items and foursomes to golf. Wal-Mart had 10 members of their staff volunteer for the tournament and support the afternoon with their own time by helping to spot and run some of the on-course games.

Proceeds from the tournament will go to help fund 26 programs in the Northern Chautauqua community run by 14 United Way Community Partners. The United Way of Northern Chautauqua County’s mission is to empower our local community through education, financial stability and health. One in three of our neighbors have been impacted by local outcome based programming, funded by strategic investments of $4,010,150 since 1999.
