WESTFIELD — The Westfield Memorial Hospital Foundation’s 27th annual golf tournament was held under sunny skies while a cool breeze off the lake reassured golfers they were at the right place at the right time on Friday, Ju1y 12 in support of the community’s beloved hospital at the Chautauqua Golf Club. Brad Balentine, Stephen Crowley, Mark Golden and Robert Calph, earned the Championship title with a top score of 59.

Each winning team member was awarded a $150 Chautauqua Golf Club Pro Shop gift certificate and other golf related prizes.

A winner in more ways than one, community-minded Balentine brought along 11 Fredonia Walmart associates to volunteer at the popular event and once again donated his prize money back to the hospital foundation, after learning his team was also one of the four winning ‘Skins’ teams. A well respected manager of the Fredonia Walmart for 37 years, Balentine remarked, “When the store does well, Walmart should do well for the community.”

WMH Foundation Executive Director and Golf Tournament Chair Patricia DiPalma announced that the proceeds for this year’s tournament will be used to continue the foundation’s mission which is to provide financial support for the delivery of high quality health care to the residents of the Chautauqua region. This past year alone, the foundation provided funding for new wheelchairs, equipment for the Radiology Department, Laboratory and the Operating Room, including advanced endoscopic equipment. Most recently the foundation also provided funding for a new power exam table and a fetal monitor to be used in the new OB-GYN Clinic scheduled to open in early September.

DiPalma and WMHF Board President Dr. Kathryn Bronstein, went on to applaud the numerous sponsors, donors, volunteers and members of the WMHF Board of Directors’ steadfast work and support to make the golf tournament such a huge success once again. They also praised members of the hospital, auxiliary and members of the Golf Committee along with long time hospital associates who also lent their untiring support. In addition, the executive director also lauded the continued support of Allegheny Health Network and AHN Saint Vincent, which like Westfield Memorial Hospital (WMH), is part of the Allegheny Health Network.

The WMH Foundation Golf Tournament is held on the second Friday of July each year. Next year’s 28th annual golf tournament will be held on July 10, all are invited to join in the fun. Anyone interested in playing, volunteering or sponsoring the well-received event next summer, please call Patricia DiPalma at (716) 793-2338.
