Lady Billies’ ace Lady Huskies, Red Dragons to stay unbeaten

The Fredonia Lady ‘Billies girls tennis team defeated Olean 3-2 on Wednesday, winning all three singles contests. Olean is now 6-1 and Fredonia improves to 6-0.

The top three singles players for Fredonia are “continuing to play really well” according to coach Lisa Johnston. All three players are undefeated this season.

Fredonia’s Bernadette Gens defeated Olean’s Mackenzi Windus 6-1, 6-0 in first singles. Fredonia’s Alicia Kluck defeated Olean’s Elyse Graham 6-3, 6-2 in second singles. Fredonia’s Selin Arnavut defeated Olean’s Caroline DeRose 6-2, 6-4 in third singles.

The first doubles match on Wednesday went three sets, with Olean’s Brookelinn Garey and Olivia Bean defeating Fredonia’s Marissa Burr and Victoria Miller 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Olean’s Makayla Folts and Collette Trudeau beat Fredonia’s Gilen Gottinger and Julie Glowniak 6-0, 6-1.

The success for the Lady ‘Billies didn’t stop against Olean, as on Thursday, they downed the Maple Grove Red Dragons 5-0, in what was their best team result of the season.

Bernadette Gens continued her stellar campaign, as she downed Maple Grove’s Jenna Hayes 6-1, 6-1 in first singles. Fredonia’s Alicia Kluck was just as steller, beating Maple Grove’s Emma Collins 6-0, 6-0 in second singles, while Selin Arnavut finished the job for Fredonia in third singles, beating Maple Grove’s Ryann Hayes 6-2, 6-2.

The first doubles pair for the Lady Billies, Victoria Miller and Marissa Burr, took down Maple Grove’s first doulbes team of Emily Shick and Allison McCall 6-3, 6-4, and Fredonia’s second doubles pair or Mia Gullo and Grace Crino won their first match of the season together, beating Maple Grove’s Paige Dalrymple and Madison DeGolier 6-3, 6-2.

“I was thrilled to have them win their first match of the season together, they’ve showed such a vast improvement in just a few weeks of playing tennis,” said Fredonia coach Lisa Johnston.

The Billies (7-0, 4-0) are next in action on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 4 p.m. in Olean.
