SILVER CREEK — The Silver Creek/Forestville Black Knights got back on track on Friday afternoon, with a 2-0 victory over Salamanca/Catt./Little Valley in a non-league boys soccer game at Silver Creek High School.

Early on, Silver Creek/Forestville (3-5-0) found the back of the net, as Darren Jimenez scored the game’s first goal on an assist from Giovanni Pacifici just 10 minutes into the game. The Black Knights added another goal in the 23rd minute, as Spencer Harford scored on Pacifici’s second assist of the half. Those three Black Knights have shouldered much of the load offensively for Silver Creek/Forestville on the season to date.

“They’re absolute workhorses,” Black Knights coach Mark Bratcher.

From that point on, it was the Black Knights’ defense that carried the team to victory.

“My main focus of reflection from today’s game was my defense,” said Bratcher. “Don Gula, Chris VanCheri, the whole back line left their hearts out there today.”

Black Knights goalkeeper Jeremy Wilcox had a great day in net with 12 saves to record his second shutout of the season.

“My boys refused to accept anything but their best today. I’m really proud of them today,” said Bratcher.

The Black Knights are back in action on Monday night, for Senior Night on the Silver Creek football field under the lights, against Maple Grove.

In other boys soccer action on Friday, the Dunkirk Marauders fell to Olean by a score of 1-0 in overtime, in a CCAA Division 1 West contest in Olean. Joe Magro scored in the second minute of overtime for the Huskies, who improved to 2-2 in league and 3-6 overall with the win. Dunkirk falls to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in league play.
