Special to The OBSERVER

SILVER CREEK — Several exercise and wellness opportunities are being offered to the public via the Community Education division of Silver Creek Central School District this fall. Registration for adult learners is underway with sessions starting in early September.

Walking the Halls: One of the district’s most popular wellness initiatives — our walking program — starts the fall session on the right foot Monday, Sept. 9 at 3:30 p.m. There is no pre-registration for the walking program. But there will be a sign-up sheet in the high school lobby. Please carry photo ID when walking. Community members are warmly welcome to enjoy walking the halls of Silver Creek CSD on Mondays through Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Men’s Basketball: Are you finding yourself spending too much time sitting around? Come out one night a week and get some exercise in a fun environment. Hone your skills with instructor Dwayne Haskins and enjoy some friendly competition during this 27-class session to be held Mondays and Wednesdays from Sept. 9 through Dec. 18 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the elementary school gym. Registration fee: $20 or $2 per night. Please note: Every person on their first visit must sign a waiver.

Pound Fitness: Instructor Shannon Aures Karcz, a certified Pound Pro, will help you channel your inner rock star with this full body cardio-jam session inspired by the infectious, energizing, and sweat-dripping fun of playing the drums. This is an exhilarating (but easily modifiable) full-body workout that combines cardio conditioning, and strength training with yoga and pilates-inspired movements. Bring a yoga mat, water, and towel. Ripstix will be provided. Our POUND class is welcoming, encouraging, and inclusive. Beginners are always welcome.

Session 1 will consist of 15 classes held Monday and Wednesday from Sept. 9 through Oct. 30 (no class Oct. 14) from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. in Crowe Commons. Registration fee: $5/single class or a six-class pass for $25.

Session 2 will consist of 12 classes held Monday and Wednesday from Nov. 4 through Dec. 18 (no class Nov. 11) from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. in Crowe Commons. Registration fee: $5/single class or six-class pass for $25.

Aquacize: Looking for an easy-on-the-joints workout? Try Aquacize and work out in the pool! Get into shape and enjoy the benefits of this fabulous joint-friendly exercise with instructor Jean Mahaney. Aquacize is fast paced and cardio intense but can be modified to fit all participants. This 29-class session will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. starting Sept. 10 and ending Dec. 19. Registration fee: $60. Please note: The water temperature will NOT be colder than normal this year.

Sit & Fit: All ages can benefit from this light and easy class which will include simple chair exercises and stretching to some fun music. Instructor Betty Bates will include the use of stretch bands and light weights if you choose to bring this equipment to class with you. Some meditation will conclude the class. Come and have fun while you stay fit! Bring a mat for meditation time if you prefer to use the floor.

Session 1 will consist of 25 classes held Tuesdays and Thursdays from Sept. 17 through Dec. 12, 2019, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Crowe Commons at the middle school. Registration fee: $50.

Yoga/Pilates: Fitness and aerobics instructor Karen Bogosian will lead participants through gentle exercises that will leave them invigorated and relaxed. Yoga/pilates is a great starting point for beginners, yet highly beneficial to the experienced exerciser. This 8-class course will be held Wednesdays from Oct. 2 through Nov. 20 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Room 415 (chorus room) at the elementary school. Pilates focuses on the strengthening of “core” muscles that help to define and elongate the body. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a mat. Registration fee: $40.

Kettlebell AMPD: Kettlebell AMPD is a group fitness format that takes heart-pumping music with kettlebell moves and combines them into 60 minutes of calorie-torching fun. Join instructor Stacie Peters-Bauer in using lightweight kettlebells, in both traditional and non-traditional ways, to enjoy a fun, effective full-body workout. Using the benefits of strength training, functional movements and cardiovascular exercise, this program is a safe and effective workout for all ages and fitness levels. This 11-class session will be held Wednesdays from Oct. 2 through Dec. 18 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Crowe Commons. Registration fee: Week 1 & 2 are free, then pay $5/class.
