Westfield continues undefeated start, downs Pine Valley 7-0

OBSERVER Staff Report

The Westfield/Brocton Lady Wolverines continue a torrid start to the season, dropping Pine Valley 7-0 in Westfield last night. The Lady Wolverines spread the ball around very well, having six different scorers make up for their seven goals.

“We talk a lot about family, and today was a family win,” said Westfield/Brocton coach Neil Huber.

Westfield/Brocton (5-0) got the party started started early, as Katie Bodenmiller scored just two minutes into the game on an assist from Makenna Barresi. That was Bodenmiller’s 10th goal in just five games on the season.

Pine Valley (0-4) was able to hold Westfield/Brocton to just one other goal in the first half, coming in the 36th minute off Haleigh Dellow’s sneaker, on another assist from Barresi. Westfield/Brocton themselves played notably good defense.

“From the back with Angel (Busch), to the defenders in Heather and Laura Johnston, Mary Conklin, and Makartnee Mortimer, they all just shined today. They’ve been lights out,” Huber said.

Westfield/Brocton exploded for their last five goals in the second half, including one in the first minute from Sheala Barresi with an assist from Jamie Black. Dellow would add her second goal of the game just six minutes later on a feed from Mortimer, and Juli Smith added another in the 11th minute with an assist from Dellow.

Makena Barresi scored the sixth Westfield/Brocton tally in the 63rd minute, with a feed from Bodenmiller and Isabella Bratton scored her first varsity goal with another pass from Bodenmiller, rounding out the Westfield scoring. Angel Busch added six stops in net for the shut out.

Westfield/Brocton will move on to play North Collins on Tuesday, Sept. 17, looking to keep their undefeated start alive.

“They’re always tough, and they play on the fast turf. We’re not quite used to that turf. The division is so up in the air, anybody can beat anybody. We just have to keep playing our game,” Huber said.

Following North Collins on Sept. 17 at 4:30 p.m., the Wolverines will be home against Chautauqua Lake on Sept. 19, also at 4:30 p.m.
