Wolverines cruise to 9-0 victory over Pine Valley/Gowanda

WESTFIELD — The Westfield/Brocton Wolverines (7-0, 2-0) continued their hot start to the season with a 9-0 victory over Pine Valley/Gowanda (2-5, 1-2), in a Section VI CCAA Division II Central boys soccer game in Westfield, on Monday.

The Wolverines got off to a fast start, first getting a goal from Josh Barresi in the seventh minute on a penalty kick to go up 1-0. After that it took the Wolverines about 20 minutes before they began to pour it on. In the 21st and 29th minute Jason Almeter scored on goals from Gabe Morello and Darien Swanson, respectively. Minutes later, Morello would score from Swanson and Almeter found his hat trick goal unassisted to give them a 5-0 lead before the half.

In the second half, Swanson found himself in the goal column unassisted at the 47th minute. After another break from scoring, Westfield/Brocton then again picked it up in the 61st minute as Michael Johnson scored a goal from Barresi. Westfield/Brocton continued to drive it home as Cooper Harris connected on a goal from Dylan Scriven, then Scriven scored from Barresi to reach the final score of 9-0 in the 75th minute.

Johnson and Morello combined for the shutout, all four saves were made by Morello in relief.

Westfield/Brocton is back in action on Wednesday when they travel down to Frewsburg.

Pine Valley/Gowanda will try to change their luck on Wednesday when they host Maple Grove.

Maple Grove 6, North Collins 0

BEMUS POINT — The Maple Grove Red Dragons (7-0, 2-0) beat the North Collins Eagles (0-3, 0-2), 6-0, in a Section VI CCAA Division II Central boys soccer game at Maple Grove High School, on Monday.

The Red Dragons received an onslaught of goals from all over their roster on Monday evening. Eli Moore opened the scoring for the Red Dragons on an unassisted goal. The rest of the goals came from Nick Golando from Tristan Spillane, Adam Marsh from Spillane, Sam Eimiller from Eli Moore, Eli Moore from brother Trent Moore and RJ Helt scored from Spillane to make it 6-0.

“It was a great game,” stated Maple Grove head coach Cara Abbey. “All the goals were team goals. When you play as a team together, amazing things can happen.”

Dominic Fricano stood strong in net for North Collins as he made a whopping 22 saves. Sam Cummings and Andrew Auer combined in net for the Maple Grove shut out.

Maple Grove is back in action on Wednesday when they head to Pine Valley/Gowanda. North Collins will attempt to get its first win on Wednesday when they host Silver Creek/Forestville.

Olean 4, Chautauqua Lake 2

OLEAN — The Olean Huskies (2-5, 1-1) took down the Chautauqua Lake Thunderbirds, 4-2, in a Section VI CCAA Division I West boys soccer game at Olean High School, on Monday.

The Thunderbirds (2-4-1, 0-1-1) were ready when they hopped off the bus as Hunter Harris wasted little time, scoring in the 12th minute on an assist from Carson D’Anthony. The T’birds held off the Huskies attack as long as they could, until in the 30th minute Quintin Allen scored a goal from Maxwell Linderman, evening the score at 1-1.

Once Olean found the back of the net, they soon began to frequent it. Joe Magro gave the Huskies the lead in the 37th minute on an assist from Allen. Then Magro found the net again in the 41st minute with another Linderman assist to give Olean a 3-1 lead over Chautauqua Lake headed into halftime.

Chautauqua Lake tried to orchestrate the comeback in the 70th minute when Harris scored his second of the game assisted by D’Anthony. However, it would not be enough as Linderman found his first goal with the assist going to Magro, making the 4-2 Olean final score.

Erik Peterson stood tall in the T’birds effort as he made an incredible 21 saves in net.

The Thunderbirds will attempt to get their first league win on Wednesday when they host Falconer/Cassadaga Valley. Olean travels to Southwestern on Wednesday.
