SILVER CREEK — Despite what was a close game going into the fourth quarter, the Wilson Lakemen added yet another win to their already impressive line of wins, as they took down the Silver Creek/Forestville Black Knights 27-6 in Silver Creek on Friday night.

Wilson, now 5-0, showed off their combination of physicality and speed, which was enough to confound both the Silver Creek/Forestville offense and defense.

“They’re really good,” said Black Knights coach Sean Helmer. “They beat us in every phase of the game. It was very difficult for us to get anything going.”

Wilson got off to a commanding start, marching 65 yards on their opening drive in just around four minutes to jump out to an early 6-0 lead over the Black Knights, as Wilson running back Brayden Dunlap found enough room to squeeze in from two yards out to cap off their drive.

Though they were jump started by a 40 yard kick return by Hunter Larson, the rest of the first quarter went rather uneventful for the Black Knights, as the Wilson defense held strong for the entire half, bending a few times but not breaking.

“Their defensive line is outstanding. They got off the ball and didn’t quit,” Helmer said. “They shed their blocks really well.”

The offense for Wilson would break through again early in the second quarter. On just the second snap of that second frame, it was Dunlap once again who found paydirt, this time on a much longer carry, seeing himself in the endzone following a 22 yard scamper, with Wilson being able to make the extra point to take a 13-0 lead.

The Black Knights would come close a few times in the second quarter, after a big chunk play from Sam Braidich and an impressive 8 yard scramble from quarterback Dom Jamison brought them to the Wilson 32, but once again the drive stalled.

The teams would trade possessions for the remainder of the half, with the Black Knights threatening a couple more times, coming up empty including one final chance as the half closed, with Wilson keeping their 13-0 lead.

For what was a scoreless quarter, it more favored the Black Knights, as the next score was on the first play of the fourth quarter, when Silver Creek/Forestville’s quarterback Dominic Jamison ran in the Black Knights first touchdown, putting them on the board, and cutting the lead to 13-6.

“They’re a team that blitzes all the time,” Helmer said. “We tried to take advantage of that with screens and short passes in the second half but we couldn’t quite get there. Penalties hurt us and they were more physical.”

It was at that point Wilson put their foot down, as Dunlap ran for a large gain to set up another score for the Lakemen, as quarterback Robert Atlas ran it in on a 12 yard keeper, pushing the score to 20-6.

On their ensuing possession is when the nail was put in the coffin, as Jamison, under pressure, threw a pass right into the hands of Dunlap, who ran it back for his third score of the contest, scoring the final touchdown of the game, and making the score 27-6.

Heading into their final game of the season, the Black Knights (2-4) look to rebound as they’ll take on Catt./Little Valley. Though they had done better lately, the Black Knights regressed on the things they had improved on over the last couple weeks.

“We need to do a better job up front, on both sides. We had done better the last couple weeks but not tonight,” Helmer said.

The Black Knights will see Catt./Little Valley come to Silver Creek next week for a 7 p.m. showdown to close the season.
