Fredonia cruises to 6-0 victory

FALCONER — The Fredonia Hillbillies closed out their regular season with 6-0 victory over Falconer/Cassadaga Valley in CCAA West boys varsity soccer action on Wednesday night.

Juan Matias opened the scoring for the Hillbillies with a goal in the 14th minute off an assist from Liam Jones. Jones made it 2-0 in the 25th minute off a pass from Matias. Josh Reynolds made it 3-0 in the 28th minute. Matias and Murphy had the assists. Adam Sellari rounded out the first-half scoring with an unassisted goal in the 32nd minute.

In the second half, Murphy scored in the 57th minute and Vilmos Futo scored in the 73rd minute. Alex Maytum had the assist on Futo’s goal. The Hillbillies finished with 24 shots. Tyler Rosen had two saves in goal for Fredonia.

“It was a good team win,” Fredonia coach Jim Rush said. “We created a number of opportunities and we distributed the ball well.”

The Hillbillies finished the regular season with a 6-2-2 league record and 6-5-2 overall. They await their first-round opponent in the upcoming Section 6, Class B-2 tournament, which is scheduled to get underway on Oct. 22.
