Hillbillies sweep cross country meet at Point Gratiot in Dunkirk

The cross country teams from Dunkirk, Fredonia, Silver Creek and Cattaraugus/Little Vally accended on Point Gratiot on Tuesday afternoon in Dunkirk for a varsity boys and girls cross country meet.
After what appeared to be a very hot and uncomfortable afternoon for running, the weather ended up cooling down with a breeze for almost perfect running weather. For Fredonia, the day couldn’t have been much better, as the Hillbillies swept both the boys and girls races.
The Fredonia boys team won the race with a score of 19, with Chris Annear leading the way in 19:04. Silver Creek took the second spot with Gabe Rhodes in 19:35. Fredonia then took third through sixth to seal their victory, with Adam Lesch, Owen Ludwig, Fred Gullo and Matt Abbatoy in order. Silver Creek’s next top finishers were Ryan Borrello (7), Lucas Lawrie (9), Avery Willebrandt (11) and Dean League (14). Catt./Little Valley’s top runners were Xzavier Small (17) and Phillip Williams (18). Dunkirk had no varsity boys in the race.
On the girls side, Fredonia’s Emily Brown was victorious, covering the course in 20:36. Dunkirk’s Jericha Petrella was second in 20:56, while Silver Creek’s Julianna Flick was third in 21:24. Dunkirk’s Siera Jacques took fourth, and Fredonia went 5-7 with Savannah Lashbrook, Julia LeBaron and Ashlyn Ambrose. Silver Creek followed with Daisy League, Melanie Wilson and Emma Romanik from 8-10, with Aaliya Small shortly behind in 12th place. Dunkirk’s other finishers were Yuribeth Castro (11), Kira Kuhlamn (19) and Meegen Yerico (20).
