The Fredonia State men’s basketball team opens season tonight against D’Youville

The Fredonia State men’s basketball team opens its season tonight against D’Youville at Dods Hall for its first of two first-semester home games. The second semester is friendlier: Nine of the final 14 games are at home, all of them against SUNYAC opponents. There is one four-game home stand and one three-gamer, concluding with the Sat., Feb. 22 date with Buffalo State, part of the Battle By The Lake series with the Blue Devils’ Western New York rival.

The Devils finished 2-23 a year ago. With nine upperclassmen on the roster, the Devils look to increase their win total under seventh-year head coach Phillip Seymore.

Seniors:

De’Quan Smith – led team with 10.4 ppg and 44 three pointers

Moussa Samassa – gives an inside presence at 6’8”

Colden George – 3.4 ppg, 7 starts

Tyler Roberts – 4.5 ppg, 12 starts

Junior returnees:

Dula Yusuf, Kameren Jackson, Adam Braniecki

Sophomore returnees:

Jamill Moody, Todd Greene Jr., Gary Sykes, Chad Biersbach

Newcomers:

Chase Johnson, sophomore, SUNY Old Westbury

Kreem George, junior, St. Joseph’s College in Vermont

Dydy Bryan, junior, Monroe Community College

Freshmen:

Alec Jones Jr., Marcus Patterson, Bronnan Higley, and Silver Creek native Braeden Woleben.
