Marauders, Hillbillies shine at Buffalo State Meet

BUFFALO — Both the Dunkirk/Silver Creek and Fredonia indoor track teams traveled to the Buffalo State Meet on Friday evening. Each team had a fair bit of success, getting top five finishes in several events.

To no surprise, Fredonia’s Emily Brown highlighted the evening with two first place finishes in the 1,000 meter and the 300 with a 2:59.97 and a 44.50, respectively. Brown was joined in the top ten for the 300 by the Marauders Kylie Procknal with a time of 45.59 that earned second place, while Fredonia’s Ava Cook earned 8th with a time of 48.89 and the Marauders’ Emma Romanik took 9th with a time of 49.60.

Individually, Fredonia’s Oliver Madriaga earned the lone first place finish for local boys, getting first in the 300 with a time of 38.11 and Dunkirk’s Nicholas Marsowicz took 3rd with a time of 39.25.

Other great finishes were had by Cook in the 55 dash getting 2nd with a time of 7.97s. Dunkirk’s Juliana Flick took 2nd in the 600 with a time of 1:45.17 and Sierra Jacques took 5th with a time of 1:52.94 for the Marauders. In the 55 hurdles, Fredonia’s Alex Weiss took 3rd for the boys with a time of 9.90. The 55 dash saw Andrew Camp of Fredonia earn 4th with a time of 7.16.

The Dunkirk girls relays had great finishes, getting first and third in the 4X400 relay. The team of Rachel Beadle, Alexis Davis, Mia Piede and Chloe Vecchio took first with a time of 3:11.50, while the team of Procknal, Jacques, Romanik and Flick took third with a time of 4:35.58. The Marauders also took third in the 4X200 relay with a time 2:02.91 combined by Katie Castiglia, Romanik, Flick and Procknal.

In the field events, Kelly Lucas of Fredonia took third in the girls High Jump with a height of J4-10.00. Hessen Bahgat also got a third place finish for Fredonia in the boys High Jump, achieving a height of 5-06.00.

Rian Budzinski got two more third place finishes for Fredonia in both the Long Jump and Triple Jump. In the Long Jump, Budzinski jumped 18-04.25, and in the Triple Jump, Budzinski went 37-05.50.
