Fredonia, Chautauqua Lake earn CCAA West 1 victories

OLEAN — The Fredonia Lady ‘Billies earned a 54-31 victory over the Olean Lady Huskies on Friday in CCAA Division 1 West girls basketball action at Olean High School thanks to strong nights from a pair of seniors in the score sheet.

Nagely Vazquez led Fredonia with 21 points on the night, while Kelly Gullo added 12 points for the Lady ‘Billies.

“It was another night where we showed anyone could step up for us,” said Fredonia coach Dan Vona. “Kelly Gullo did a nice job for us and Nagely [Vazquez] was great again for us, too.”

Fredonia (8-5, 4-3) led 16-4 after the first quarter and 27-10 at halftime. The Lady ‘Billies coasted the rest of the way, as they outscored Olean 14-9 in the third quarter and 13-12 in the fourth quarter.

The Lady ‘Billies will play Cassadaga Valley today at SUNY Fredonia, scheduled to tip-off at 11:30 a.m. Cassadaga Valley beat Westfield/Brocton 38-37 on Friday.

Chautauqua Lake 70, Allegany-Limestone 40

MAYVILLE — Lily Woodis had 17 points, six assists and five steals while Rebecca Henry added 16 points and nine rebounds as Chautauqua Lake coasted past Allegany-Limestone, 70-40, in Division 1 West action.

Henry scored 6 points during a 22-9 first quarter and Woodis added 11 in a 26-14 third quarter for the Thunderbirds (10-6, 3-5).

Hannah Weise grabbed nine rebounds and Alexis Jacobson returned to the lineup with five steals for the hosts.

Taylor Davis led the Gators (3-11, 2-6) with 13 points and Devin Ralston had 10.

Chautauqua Lake is at Fredonia on Tuesday in another CCAA Division 1 West league game, while Allegany-Limestone takes on Maple Grove on Tuesday in Allegany.
