Marauders season ends at Maryvale

OBSERVER Staff Report

BUFFALO — The Dunkirk Marauders season came to an end on Tuesday night, as the 14-seed Marauders fell to the 11-seed Maryvale Flyers 63-48 at Maryvale High School.

The Marauders trailed 32-18 at the half, but came out roaring in the third quarter, and were able to cut the deficit under five points. Unfortunately for them, the Marauders could never quite get over the hump to close the deficit, missing a few shots that would have completed the comeback. Maryvale was able to close out the game despite Dunkirk’s best efforts.

Christian Ortiz led the Marauders with 20 points, 16 of which came in the second half, while Earl Stewart scored 12 points in his final game, and Donnie Lockett added 11.

Xavier Mitchell led the Flyers with 20 points, while Deondre Wright had 12 and Andrew Dockery had 11.

The biggest discrepancy of the game came at the free throw line. Dunkirk only shot two free throws the entire game, while Maryvale went 11/17 on the game.

Maryvale will move on to face the Albion Purple Eagles at Albion High School today, while Dunkirk’s season comes to an end, as Stewart, Davon Kubasik, Eric Mendoza, and Peter Paredes all played their last games as Marauders.
